Choosing The Right Boiler For Your Home

With so many boiler brands and types available, it’s difficult to know which boiler is right for your home. With so many factors that come into play when choosing a boiler, it can seem overwhelming and daunting at first. To help you out with choosing the correct boiler for your home, we’ve put together this helpful guide to give you the knowledge that you need to choose the correct boiler for your home.

Boiler Types

There are three main boiler types that you should be aware of when choosing your new boiler. These are System, Combi and Conventional boilers.

System Boiler

A system boiler is fitted into your house. The main heating components are built into the boiler however a system boiler features a separate cylinder to store hot water. Having a cylinder to store the hot water means that there can be a constant supply of hot water to a large number of sources at a time. So if you live in a house that has multiple bathrooms a system boiler may be the right choice.

Combi Boiler

Combi boilers, also known as combination boilers, are one of the most popular boiler types. Combi boilers are highly efficient as they heat water directly from the mains, as a tap is switched on and the hot water is not stored in a cylinder. Combi boilers are great for if you only have one bathroom as a combi boiler may struggle to deliver hot water to more than one water source.

Conventional Boiler

A conventional boiler requires lots of space as they require both hot and cold water feeder tanks. Just like a system boiler, they can power multiple taps and or showers so can be great if you have a large house with multiple bathrooms. The major downside to a conventional boiler is the amount of space needed for both the feeder tanks and a boiler as well.

Boiler brands

What you will also find when looking for a new boiler, just like you would when looking for a new car, is that there is a range of different boiler brands. Just like with a new car each different brand can offer something different and it’s worth looking at multiple brands to see what each can offer your home. Here are some of the most popular brands that can be found in the UK:

As we said, there is a range of brands that are available, and you should do your own research into these brands so that you can find the boiler for your home.

Efficiency

When trying to find a new boiler for your home, keeping energy efficiency in mind is a key factor. Most new boiler models will have ‘A’ grade efficiency, this means that they are very efficient with their energy usage, up to 90% more efficient. Energy efficiency is an important factor as this means you will be saving more money in the long run as your home requires less energy to get warm.

Life Expectancy

One thing to keep in mind while doing your boiler brand research is the life expectancy of those boilers. While saving your money and going for the cheapest option may seem like the thing to do, this can result in being let down by your boiler further down the line. A cheaper boiler is more likely to break down, resulting in repairs being needed. Opting for a more well known and reputable brand such as Vaillant or Worcester Bosch means that you can put those breakdown worries to the back of your mind. This doesn’t mean that your boiler is guaranteed to be problem-free but it means that you aren’t wasting your money.

Overall, choosing the right boiler for your home can depend on a number of factors such as the number of bathrooms in your home, your budget and energy efficiency of the new boiler. Keeping all of these factors in mind while choosing your new boiler will mean that you select what is right for your home. As with any new purchase, it is important that as well as reading a guide such as this you do your own research into a product before you buy it.
